Texture authority. Industry visionary.
To the New York Times, he's a "Style Svengali." To Ebony, a member of their Power 100.
To the clients who've trusted him for decades, he's simply the only person who ever understood their hair.
The story
The beginning
Dickey trained at the legendary houses of Oribe and Louis Licari in New York during the 80s and 90s- the most prestigious addresses in the industry. And he saw the flaw from inside it: the education didn't exist for non-straight textures. Stylists were sending their "difficult" clients to him. The hair wasn't difficult. The training was just limited.
The book
In 2003, he wrote Hair Rules!- the first comprehensive guide to kinky, curly, and wavy hair. Not a style book. A care manual. The "care tag" the industry had never bothered to create. It was immediately adopted into cosmetology curricula nationwide. It's still the standard.

The product line
To prove that texture-specific formulas weren't niche — they were the majority — Dickey launched the Hair Rules product line in 2007. Over sixteen years, he scaled it from an independent launch to the shelves of Target, Ulta, and Walgreens. The multi-textural market existed. He built the proof.
Pro artistry
Beyond the salon, Dickey’s influence spans the professional world. As a "Pro’s Pro," he has spent decades educating fellow stylists, consulting with chemists on formulation, and working on-set to ensure that texture is handled with expertise in every professional context, from Hollywood to Madison Avenue.
The Studio
Hair Rules Studio opened as the first multi-textural salon in the United States. Not multi-cultural — multi-textural. That distinction is the whole point. New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta — and virtual, for everywhere else. It's where technique is refined, clients are understood, and the consulting work is tested in real time.

It remains the heart of everything: where technique is refined, where clients are understood, and where the consulting work is tested in real time.
